Are forums Hubzilla-network exclusive, or can users of other Fediverse-flavours like Diaspora or Friendica access (read, write to) forum(-channels)?

If this is possible, how would users of other networks address forums on Hubzilla?

if you look at @Anima Jazz you can see diaspora people writing posts in the forum...

@Daniel Bierstedt I mean the Hubzilla forums, since I run a Hubzilla hub.

@Giacomino Good that this is possible. But how do users on other Fediverse flavours post to Hubzilla forums? I have ActivityPub, Diaspora, Friendica connect activated on my hub anyway so I can follow users from the other networks. How do they subscribe to a closed forum channel?

They can add/follow the channel ( if the channel/forum has installed the federation/fediverse apps)...
about mastodon friendica ... , i don't know if they can write in the forum wall as diaspora users.

Connecting is just like connecting to any other channel, regardless of whether it is a public, restricted, or private forum.

Posting to a Hubzilla forum from Diaspora requires one to insert the code for a forum mention; which Diaspora normally does not process or understand. That code is

!{forum@forumhost.domain}

Diaspora members will not be able to post to a private Hubzilla forum - which can only be accomplished using a "wall-to-wall" post for privacy reasons. Friendica members *may* be able to post to a Hubzilla private forum, but last time I looked their implementation of OpenWebAuth was not totally compatible.

Osada is very similar in this regard except it also contains a channel setting which allows Mastodon folks (or those using other ActivityPub software) to post to the forum using a regular @mention.

Hubzilla forums may also be posted from ActivityPub but commenters will only see comments by Hubzilla members and other people using their own protocol. ActivityPub folks will not be able to see comments made by Diaspora/Friendica folks or vice versa in their own streams. This is not a Hubzilla issue.

I was not implying that this is an issue, I just wanted to know if it works, since I was looking for a way to reunificate members of a G+ community that fragmented to different Fediverse-flavours. So Fediverse is not a viable option for that.

Forum/group bangtags are used by a few other Fediverse systems and there are also (low priority) plans to implement it in Mastodon:

Other more Froum/group oriented ActivityPub systems under development (Prismo, Flarum-Feddle etc.) will probably also implement it and GNU-Social will also soon interoperate better with ActivityPub soon it seems.

This would be aweosme. I'm eyeing flarum for long while. The only thing that keeps me with discourse is the mailing list functionality, as it combined both extremisms together (poeople that love mailing lists, those who hate either and those who love web forums).

However, AP aproach seems very cool.
Cant wait to ditch doscourse.

What are your favorite Hubzilla related forums that are not tech-related? For example, gardening or sailing? (I realize that this isn't exactly technical support related, but I wasn't sure of a better place to ask--feel free to delete if you think it inappropriate.)
