Is chat app going to be discontinued? Just asking. And a followup question. If not, maybe it would be cool to use it for this forum as a way to chat with others in realtime.

Thats a great news. Would be cool to have hubzilla community chat. Now there are bits and pieces on matrix/irc/xmpp. Why not use natively

not sure who set up matrixx/irc/xmpp chats about hubzilla. I guess the reason is to also reach people who don't have a hubzilla channel yet...

yeah i guess. It does have it advantage over hub?illa's chat. I just thought of dog fooding some features and thought that starti.g here could get more people on board. Its just a suggestion so if people are not really up for it i won't press of course.
Btw does zap have chat feature?

thanks o/
So I need to be logged in the channel, the channel app must be active and than I should be able to see the available chat rooms.
Can I see/join a chat just by link (as you did) if I'm not logged at that channel?

No, that's the reason for that other chat resource. You need a name, i.e. a channel to join a chat.

No no I don't think that was my question @
hEARt PhoniX
For instance, my original profile is at start.hubzilla.org and yours is at hubzilla.rocks, if I want to join a chat room you created, do I need to replicate my profile by logging in your channel? Or you can "invite" me with a link and I can just join in using my credentials?

you dont replicate channel. you visit someone elses channel while being logged in to yours. In that way you can post a comment in the channel or a post if the channel allows you to do it. So yes although the chatroom does live on other persons channel, you by joining are basically joining his chatroom but with your current start.hubzilla account. there is no replication going on.
Probably someone can explain this better :P

Chatrooms are just items that you can either access, or you can't, dependent on the room's ACL. As it's ZOT authentication and begotiation of access rights happens transparently across hubs.
If you visit a channel that has got a chatroom, just walk right in. :)

Thanks @

, that was a good explanation.
I think all my issues with the question have been answered satisfactorily.
