Is there a way to PM other people?
I can't find one or a addon for that, so I thought it was better to ask.
Thanks o/

Yes, the Mail app.
Click on the Hamburger menue in the top right corner.
If its not there, you can add it with "Add Apps" which is also there.

I'm just wondering - how it works when the other side does not have mail app installed?

the receiver will still get a notification so far.
On a sidenote, the mail app will be moved to addons in hubzilla 5.0 and sunset in 6.0 for the zot network (it will be still used for diaspora).
The recommended way to send PM will be to restrict the post to just the intended receivers via ACL or @! tag. This is already supported in hubzilla 4.6 and earlier.

oh no! Stupid behaviour.. Just another Google plus...
How people would search conversations among tons of posts?..
I disappointed 😞

there will be a separate UI at some point to display PMs.

Affinity slider will get 90% of that job done.

for every post from someone who's close to you (and not even just their mentioned-only posts). if they're active, any direct messages will be lost in a week. for anyone messaging you who isb't that close, you don't even get
that
much narrowing down. there is no replacement for the mail app.

Yep, just tried this method and the usability is quite unintuitive and absolutely not user friendly.
Although I do understand the intention to "simplify" things and use just one solution for the two situations.
But the way it is.....I don't know......
Well, just leaving my experience here, but if dropping the mail app was already decided than that is that......

Just an idea. Maybe such private posts could get an added automatic tag and a new sorting tool? A different color so that they stand out?

Spontaneously it feels like a bad decision to remove some kind of mail / messenger a type of conversation with your contacts. However with a mail / messenger type of conversation then you just have the number of messages in chronological order. With the new approach the conversation will be more categorized and you have a posting with comments for every issue with that particular contact.
Hmm, but if you have a mail like system instead of a messenger type system then you will also have your messages categorized in a similar way as the new approach by the way.
Another important thing is to give people different options to opt out of notifications for different things in a social network. Then it is good to be able to differentiate between different types of messages. But that is perhaps already thought about regarding this new implementation?

Personally I find it also sad that this feature disapears. I really liked this way of Pm'ing. But I guess its the limitation or rather different aproach of zot protocol so its something I need to learn to live with.
