Hubzilla Support Forum What is perfect is of course a matter of preferences. For me the primary use case for social media is to make it easier to keep in contact/meetup with people you want to meet IRL. First, the problems my "use case" solves:
β’ Problem 1: Have you ever felt at least a little bit unsure whether you are inviting some of your friends to activities a little too often and therefore disturbing them?
β’ Problem 2: Have you at least sometimes felt disturbed or a little bit stressed about people inviting you to activities a bit too often and at least implicitly require some kind of answer from you? By SMS, in Facebook events or any other social media?
This could very easily be solved in Hubzilla with just one more notification setting. Here is how:1. Create one extra channel of yours that you call for example "<username> β My invitations".
2. Add the friends and acquaintances you want as connections.
3. The new feature needed: Each connection can then choose whether they want to get an email alert as soon as you post something in that specific channel for invitations. It could be a larger event or just asking if someone wants to go for a walk on short notice. And of course your connections can also temporarily (or permanently) turn those email alerts off and only check them manually by logging in. So you can invite as often as you like and you will know for sure that you are not disturbing anyone. Please note that I am only talking about alerts for normal postings in your feed for that channel. To include the calendar for the channel in some way would of course be even better. Like for example that a posting automatically goes to your feed when adding a calendar event with the same permissions as the event so the same people can see the feed posting noticing about the event with a link to it in your calendar (maybe this is already the case by the way?); then the new email alert feature will catch events too automatically. This email alert should most likely be turned off/unchecked as default setting of course.
4. The already built in functionality in Hubzilla also makes it possible for you as the channel owner to choose the target audience for each post and event so you don't always need to invite every person/channel among your connections. Depending on type of activity etc.
This solution is actually one step better than former Google+ "Collections". The extra feature with this approach above is that you in a Hubzilla channel can choose a subset of all your connections for each posting you do. Very flexible! A Google+ "Collection" always had a fixed audience of those that you initially chose.
I of course don't know if this is a complicated or time consuming thing to do in the code, or if there might be other complications that I haven't though of, but to me this would really be a thing that I have have been looking for, for so long in social media solutions. And shouldn't it be a thing most people would have good use of for making their social life smoother?
Just a suggestion from me :-). Maybe it is even a very quick thing to implement? A checkbox beside the other email notifications and a few lines of code? *hoping :-)*
