I like to render my timeline (well, in fact, my posts or posts from others I boost) in a website. I could it using feeds (rss, atrom...) or maybe using an iframe (if not sidebars, etc. are shown).

If I pull with HZ a RSS feed from FB&Co the included Hashtag links will still point to the original sources.

Friendica does wok different … the included Hashtag links of a Rss Feed change to the new Server URL.
e.g. it changes from
https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/city
to
/search?tag=city

– is this not the better way? …

is there a chance that this could work in HZ the same way ?

!Hubzilla Support Forum I did subscribe to RSS feeds that are now shown in my stream.

Shown are only short previews or teasers of the articles and I have to click on "show full text" to see the article itself.

Is it possible to switch the display so the article always is shown immediately? I did find nothing in settings or admin.

That cannot be the case, as if I click on the link "show full article" it is shown immediately directly in Hubzilla without loading anything (the post content in stream changes). So I think the mechanism only showing an excerpt is Hubzilla functionality.

!Hubzilla Support Forum I've got a strange "error" every now and then since quite a while - I believe ever since I'm using Hubzilla. Not really a problem, because I can always refer to the source, but maybe rss connections beyond the source in the example might have the same behaviour?

In one of my RSS feeds (from politico.com), a youtube link gets inserted on, what seems like, a totally random base. Here's a screenshot of the most recent example:

If I look on the original article, a bit.ly link might be the trigger for the problem. That link apparently is replaced by the youtube link (which is invalid) and also prevents a whole bunch of paragraphs from being imported - until there is an actual youtube link in the original article.

I have no expanation for that, beside that the parser which is supposed to "translate" the feed to Hubzilla might have "hickups" when a certain combination of links is part of the content of a rss-post.

That's totally true, @Giacomino! I can't tell anymore, if the same "glitch" ever came through on another feed - but on this particular one it happens regulary. Which makes sense, since it is a daily "briefing" with a repetitous structure and contents... as the bit.ly link. But that's a pretty unique piece of content, which, in connection to the other link to youtube seems to trigger the behaviour.

If I look onthe feed source for the specific link in the xml, I get this:

Which looks - to my eyes - unsuspicous... but then, I don't really know what I am talking about. I'm only reading(mostly trying) the code.

Thanks @Mike Macgirvin, although I can't tell one from the other, your explanation makes total sense to me. Something that's so complex is designed to go wrong (under certain conditions)... But I am really wondering, why software needs to do that (I understand and appreciate the convenience aspect for the user), when a simple choice option while setting up a rss-connection (or another type) would potentially avoid this.

I remember using an old RSS agregator (don't remember which one anymore, that's more than 15 years ago), where I had to specify the RSS/Atom version when connecting a feed. But it's been easy. And it either worked well - or not. But if not, I only had to change the version in try/error mode... in the end, easy enough and no real science involved.

Anyway... I'll think about filing a bug.

RSS feeds not updating at all

I've added a couple of RSS feeds to my contacts. They load perfectly fine directly after adding, however they do not seem to update at all.
My regular RSS reader shows several updates after a day, but on Hubzilla the new entries are missing. Removing and adding the feed results in the new entries showing up.
According to the log the cron.php is working just fine and is running about every 10 Minutes, I just do not see any notices regarding RSS updates in the log.
Are there any settings that could be missing? I couldn't find a lot documentation for RSS in Hubzilla.

I've set the logs to debug now. they were on trace before.
With the trace setting, I can see one mention of an RSS feed updating:

Looking at the config table:

So... after changing the log mode to debug and looking at the log it seems like suddenly everything works... and the RSS feeds actually update.

So... updated to 3.8 in the mean time.
Looks like the cron job is not updaing RSS again.
The only entry from the last run:

The other entries with the identifier 591885c6ae are from a couple of days ago.

I'll dive into the PHP files, because I can exclude the load, memory and cpu issues. The log does not contain anything useful even with log level All, so I'll be sprinkling some logger lines all over the place.

I guess I need some more help here, as I don't understand enough PHP to make sense of this.
What I've done so far is to add logger(..) to some points.
In Cron.php I've added:
        Master::Summon(array('Poller'));
        logger('cron: poller started');
The result is that I get this line in the logfile:

So the Master::Summon seems to be executed. But this seems to be a blackbox to me. I assume it somehow should end up at Zotlabs/Daemon/Poller.php in the run function at the top of the file, but that does not seem to happen:

        $maxsysload = intval(get_config('system','maxloadavg'));
I don't get the "poller:started" in my log.
When I add the following line to Master.php in the Summon function

then I get this in the logs:

Master.php seems to do some tricks that I don't understand at the beginning with its arguments.
How is the Poller started here?

Hubzilla is my RSS reader. RSS feeds are possible as connections if this is enabled by the administrator. I have one privacy group for RSS feeds, so I can read just these if I want to, or else have them in my general activity stream.

I found the setting that I have to enable as admin. Then I started to add RSS feed URLs as 'connections', no errors so far.

But what do I have to do to get the contents oth those rss feeds to actually show up, to import into the channel?
